What is Endoscopy… Endoscopy literally means looking inside. At West GTA Endoscopy our skilled qualified staff look inside the entire large bowel. This procedure is called colonoscopy and is used to diagnose large bowel problems such as diarrhea and blood tinged stools. Colonoscopy is done as a screening procedure for diagnosing colon cancer and precancerous conditions of the large bowel.

Early diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer leads to a complete cure in 90% of patients
Colonoscopy is the best screening tool available for early detection of colorectal cancer
90% of new colorectal cancer cases are diagnosed in individuals over the age of 50
Between 2-3% of patients with colorectal cancer are asymptomatic at the time of screening
Up to 10% of asymptomatic individuals have polyp removed at the time of colonoscopy screening – removal of these polyps reduces the risk of colon cancer
Individuals with a history of colorectal cancer in immediate family members are at higher risk for colorectal cancer.

We also do a procedure called Gastroscopy to look inside the esophagus, stomach and the first part of the small intestine called the duodenum.Gastroscopy is used to diagnose complaints such as heart burn, acid regurgitation, upper abdominal pain and bleeding from the stomach and duodenum.
